Maverick is our first Malamute.
We met Janis' along with one of her Mals, Sherman at the 2011 Alaskan Malamute National Specialty being held in Halifax. In our first glance at that beautiful seal boy, we knew we were in love. Janis told us she had planned to do a repeat breeding with his parents in the winter and without a second thought, we told her to put us on the list. March came and the pups were born. Janis called us to let us know there would be a pup for us, A Seal Male. We were over the moon ecstatic to hear the news! We wondered what we would name our new boy. We both glanced over at the tv to the movie we were watching and at the same time both said "Maverick".
The next 8 weeks could not have dragged on longer. Finally the day came where I
would fly up to Ontario and pick up our new baby boy. Janis met me at the
airport and took me back to her place, Moonsnoe Kennels. We pulled up the
drive and she let me into the yard. The door opened and out ran a puppy
stampede! In the back, there he was, our little man. The only one with out his
ears up. I immediately snapped a picture of us and sent it to Evan. His text
back was "Whats he like?" and we both remember it clear as day, all I said was,
On May 10th 2012 we brought him home and our life changed from that moment. Maverick was a big goofy puppy with the silliest most lazy personality we have ever seen. His ears never did stand up, and he grew to be a whopping 31'' and 115 lbs!
Mavericks temperament is the epitome of all we strive towards in this majestic breed. Maverick has been the light of our lives and we couldn't imagine life without him. He is the ruler of the roost here at NovaMal and even though he never became the amazing father he could have been, he makes an amazing uncle!
Being a bit too large, with an incorrect bite, along with those silly ears, Mav never did grace the show ring. But we will be showing the Obedience world what we are made of in the Spring of 2017!
