How do you sum up the best 6 years of your life with words and do it a justice?

On May 12, 2012, our lives changed forever. We began our journey into Malamutes with a chubby little, floppy eared, life-altering sweetheart named Maverick. And today, just three months after a diagnosis of T-Cell Lymphoma, our lives have changed again. Our loving, goofy, piggy puff of a boy has left us. On to the next journey, to put smiles on the faces of the people we love who have already left this world behind.
To have met him was to love him. He put warmth in even the coldest of hearts. A temperament many people could only dream of having, and he was all ours.
From the moment I met him I knew he was special. He just had this aura about him. He made me a better person and I am proud to have been his mom, his slave, and his personal chef. I feel him everywhere around me and I see him every time I look into his sister and niece’s eyes. My how he loved them, and they him.

Lynsay and Maverick the Alaskan Malamute

At 5 months old Maverick was the first Malamute to ever receive the C.L.A.S.S BA(h) title as well as only the second in the province of Nova Scotia. At 9 months he received his Expert Trick Dog Title and his CGN at just one year old. At four he received his “Temperament Tested” title as well, which made Evan and I so so proud, but the title I am most proud of him for holding is “uncle”. Being a dad was never in his cards and that was okay with us, he played uncle so perfectly, as he did everything in this life.

I will never begin to accurately explain the feeling of overwhelming loss I hold in my heart, not only for myself, but for our two girlies, who were with him until the very end, and my amazing husband who has been there for us, and been strong for us when even Mavie, the strongest dog I know, couldn’t be strong anymore.

There are so many people we need to thank for their support, not only since Mav got sick, but for being on this amazing journey alongside us for the last 6 years.
First and foremost, Janis Waechter of Moonsnoe Malamutes, thank you, thank you, thank you. For seeing something in us when many others did not, and allowing us to share our life with Maverick. We are eternally grateful for the gift you have given us.

Our parents, for being the best Nannies, Grampy (Chicken Man) and Papa that a dog could ever ask for, our amazing friends, his Aunties and Uncles, for supporting us, for loving him as he loved you..

“There are good ships, and there are wood ships, and ships that sail the sea. But the best ships are friendships and may they always be.”

To Maverick, the best damn dog that ever lived. I promise to do you proud Bubs. I never knew that I could love someone the way that I love you.
